WELLINGTON is set to stage the town’s big Street Fair tomorrow (Saturday) with thousands of people expected to attend the event - while the Friends of Wellington Park will put on its own show, Proms in the Park, on Sunday.

The Street Fair will see the High Street and South Street in the town closed to traffic from 6am to 6pm with the fair running from 10am–4pm. The event will feature about 50 stalls run by, among others, local crafters, community organisations, sports clubs and schools.

Live music and street entertainment includes John Lockyer playing outside the Green Dragon pub during the afternoon, and the High Park Music Students, Flute Trio, Bootstrap Border, Wiveliscombe Wind Band, Skintight Samba and The Wellington Ukes playing during the day in the town centre. Wellington Majorettes will also perform at the end of the day. The Vintage Inn will provide a barbecue and hog roast and the Frost n’ Curl ice cream van will also attend. A face painter will be on hand and the Glitter Fairy, Alice and The White Rabbit and Frozen Princess stilt walkers will be walking around the town during the day.

Deputy town clerk Annette Kirk, who is organising the event on behalf of the town council, said: “It’s going to be a great day and a real opportunity to bring the community together after what has been a really difficult 18 months. We hope that lots of people will visit the fair to look at the stalls, support our community groups who have been through a really challenging time and enjoy the entertainment.

“The town council was very fortunate to receive a Government Grant under the Emergency Town Centre Recovery Fund to enable it to support the ‘Welly Welcome Weekend’ community event.”

n Proms in the Park will be taking place on Sunday from 2pm to 6.30pm, with performances from the Wellington Operatic Society and Wellington Silver Band.
