The Wellesley cinema in Wellington will be screening a Royal Ballet triple bill next month.
Within the Golden Hour, Medusa and Flight Pattern) will be broadcast live to cinemas on Thursday, May 16, at 7.15pm with an encore screening on Sunday, May 19, at 2pm.
All three pieces show the contemporary face of The Royal Ballet. Christopher Wheeldon’s Within the Golden Hour features three central pas de deux and is inspired by the changing of the seasons.
This is followed by Medusa, a new piece by Belgian choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.
The evening ends with Crystal Pite’s Flight Pattern, the choreographer’s reflection on the refugee crisis, with 36 dancers moving in unison to music from Górecki’s Symphony of Sorrowful Songs.
