A WELLINGTON couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Thursday, April 4.

Anthony (Tiger) Dyke and his wife Ruth married in 1964, just four years after first meeting in the old Nynehead youth club - and have never looked back.

Then a competitive runner for Somerset, Ruth would spend her evenings jogging, with a sixteen-year-old Anthony cycling alongside her because he says he “couldn’t run so fast as her.”

The pair were an instant match, and tied the knot just four years after first meeting in 1960, with their first of two children arriving in March the following year.

Now aged 81 and 79 respectively, Anthony and Ruth have created many happy memories over the years, including on globetrotting holidays which took the couple from sailing down the Mississippi on a paddle steamer to spending Christmas in the Dolomite mountains.

Anthony revealed the ‘secret’ to a long and happy marriage, he joked, was down to spending not too much time together.
