WELLINGTON Town Council agreed to grants totalling £3,342 at its March meeting.

One of these grants was for £1,150 to Wellington in Bloom as a contribution to a number of projects this year.

The town council has supported Wellington in Bloom over many years for the work it does in and around Wellington.

In addition to the usual contribution it makes to the well being of the town it intends this year to mark the tenth anniversary of the successful Swains Lane Nature Reserve.

Wellington Basins Volunteer Group is to receive another £589 to purchase an electric start wheeled strimmer, which will be used to clear brambles and vegetation in and around the Basins area.

The group received a grant of £918 in December 2015 to help fund the purchase of folding chairs and tables.

The council has always recognised the hard work the group undertakes in its efforts to maintain an important, historic part of the town.

Wellington Community Centre has also been given £1,183 to help costs involved in providing a rear fire door and vented window required by Building Control in relation to total work costing £22,000.

An application for a grant of £200 was agreed for Churches Together in Wellington to be used in connection with the Howard Road Fun Day in 2016.

Wellington Library Friends Group, formed following a reduction in Library services, will receive £120 to provide Public Liability Insurance.

The group wants to use the library outside its normal opening hours for a wide range of public events. In order to do this it needs to become more ‘formal’.

At the beginning of the financial year the council made £15,000 available in its grants budget. It has £2,556 left.
