TWO pupils from Wellesley Park Primary School, Wellington will push the big plunger to switch on the town's Christmas lights at the end of November - but fewer lights will burst into life this year, town clerk Greg Dyke has warned.

The number of lights heralding the start of the festive season will fall this year because money was needed for installing a new infrastructure throughout the town of new sockets with timers and new fixings for the decorations.

Mr Dyke said: "This was part of an agreed three year rolling programme adopted by the town council to replace its old lights with modern, energy efficient ones, and each year more lights will be added."

The switch-on takes place on Saturday, November 28 from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.
