A POWER cut has struck the Wellington area for the second time in two weeks.

Power was lost at 10.12am on Friday, June 20, with 6,872 properties cut off.

National Grid have stated that third party damage to the network is the reason for the outage. This incident, they say, is unrelated to the power cut that took place on Monday, June 9.

On this occasion, farming equipment came into contact with an overhead line in a field.

According to National Grid, there were no injuries, but supplies were isolated for safety purposes.

Four properties remain without power, with full restoration expected by 4pm.

A National Grid Electricity Distribution spokesperson said: "Due to farming equipment coming into contact with an overhead line, customers in Wellington and the surrounding areas may have experienced a power cut this morning.

“Initially affecting over 6,000 properties, the vast majority of customers were restored within the hour.

“A handful of properties remain without power, and we'd like to thank customers for their patience and understanding. We will continue to work with farming communities in Somerset to reduce incidents involving our power lines.”
