REMEMBRANCE Sunday in Wellington began with a parade which left Wellington School in mid-afternoon to make its way to the annual Service of Remembrance at the war memorial in the park.

Wellington School CCF Band headed the parade followed by the Royal British Legion Wellington branch standard, the Wellington Women’s Section branch standard and other standards from across the county.

RBL branch chairman Ray Filler, MP Rebecca Pow, Mayor of Taunton Deane Borough Council Cllr Hazel Prior-Sankey and Wellington Mayor Cllr Gary James were also on parade.

The Rev Tim Pottage led the very well attended service during which Rockwell Green Primary School head boy, Joshua, and head girl, Lucy, read their own prayers in remembrance of the fallen, supported Pastor Bob House.

RBL Wellington branch chaplain the Rev Tim Treanor led the annual Act of Remembrance.

During the wreath-laying ceremony, RBL president Michael Rose read out the names of just a few of the many people from Wellington who died in the service of their country.

Many organisations in the town laid wreaths including Beech Grove, Rockwell Green, St John’s and Wellesley Park primary schools, and Court Fields Community School.

The RBL Wellington branch would like to thank parents and teaching staff from the schools for taking the time to allow their young people to take part in this important event.

Our thanks also go to the many other organisations in Wellington, including Churches Together, and the town clerk for his assistance with the timings and the assembly of the parade at the school.

Once again thanks go to the members of the WI in Wellington, assisted by members of the Townswomen’s Guild, for the displays of hand-knitted poppies at Wellington’s Garden of Remembrance and Monmouth Gardens in North Street.
