PLANS are being made to tackle flooding on a busy road between Wellington and Taunton this year, with more works to follow at Chelston next year.
Somerset Rivers Authority (SRA) has announced works that will see the 90-year-old drainage system replaced on the A38 near Rumwell.
The works, which aim to reduce the impact on motorists in times of bad weather, are set to start on February 12 and will last about six weeks.
Most activity will be along the side of the road so, while the A38 will not be closed, temporary two-way traffic lights will be needed. The lights will be manually controlled at peak times and removed wherever possible to minimise disruption.
The A38 will be affected from the hill at Rumwell to just past Rumwell Farm Shop. Repairs and upgrades will be delivered for SRA by Somerset County Council.
More SRA-funded drainage works on the A38 at Chelston are expected to follow in 2019. This too will be designed and delivered for the SRA by the county council.
