VANDALS are thought to have caused flooding to a flat above the Co-operative food store in Fore Street, Wellington, last week.

Police say they gained access to the flat above the store at the back of the building before turning on taps.

Water caused damage to the store, which had to be closed for a total of more than eight hours, mainly because the tills were affected.

The store re-opened just before noon on Tuesday of last week.
