THE organiser of micro music festival Welliestock says he is ‘working his socks off’ to find a site for the event after plans to use Court Fields School in the town had to be scrapped.

But Huw Weston says the event will not be returning to Wellesley Park Primary School, the festival’s previous venue.

He added: “We have been offered a number of fantastic sites outside of Wellington which we are extremely grateful for but we are working hard to keep Welliestock within the town.

“We would dearly like to find a regular home for Welliestock and if someone has a field that could accommodate our community music event then we’d be eternally grateful.”

In a statement, he said months of planning and positive discussions had taken place between the organisers and licensing authorities over the use of Court Fields but senior police had health and safety concerns which could not be overcome. Mr Weston told the WWN these related to the field itself rather than the school.

In the same statement Mr Weston said if it was not possible to find a new site the event would have to be cancelled and tickets refunded. The statement said: “This weekend has not been an easy time for us and today is a very very sad day indeed following four wonderful Welliestock events, but we are continuing to work very closely with so many others to find another suitable site for the event this year.

“We would like to say a huge thanks to Court Fields School for their incredible support as we all felt this was a wonderful site to host Welliestock on for the next few years.”

Mr Weston added: “I’m a determined person and we’ll work until the last minute for it to go on. We are working our socks off to find a venue for Welliestock.”

The WWN reported in January that the event is scheduled to be held on Saturday, June 30, and would feature 19 bands on two stages. Hundreds of music fans had queued to buy tickets at the Mad Dog clothes store in South Street after a music launch night at The Vintage in Fore Street.
