TOWN councillors have drawn up plans for how Wellington would respond in the event of the severe weather that has hit northern England and Scotland in recent weeks.
The council would use local contractors to help clear roads and pavements in the town not covered by Somerset Highways, a meeting of the emergency committee decided.
The following areas were identified as priorities: Howard Road at the junction with Brendon Road; Church Fields at the junction with Longforth Road; Wellesley Park at the junction with Ashford Road; Rockwell Green, Oaken Ground and the approaches from Westford to the railway bridge; the North Street car park access and Lodge Close.
Town centre pavements and local care homes were also identified as priorities, and the highway authority would be contacted to find out about arrangements for clearing Longforth Road/Brendon Road for use by vehicles going to and from Relyon. What action was taken would depend on the exact situation and would be limited by the funds available. Salt and grit bins have been checked ready for winter.
Residents can also contact Taunton Deane Borough Council housing officers based at 28 Fore Street for advice if needed.
In the event of flooding residents should phone a dedicated number – 01823 356411 – where advice would be available.
