THE Transition Town Wellington group has received praise from councillors for its efforts in trying to make a real difference to the area.
The group has been successful in obtaining a £1,446.17 grant from Wellington Town Council to support projects including booklets, bird boxes, plug plants and ground cover layer for a community orchard.
The TTW group started in 2008 and is part of an international Transition Network – a group of local people volunteering to make Wellington more carbon neutral, sustainable and biodiverse.
Members of the council’s finance committee had no hesitation in giving the application their blessing when they met this month via the Zoom video conferencing technology.
The Deputy Mayor, Cllr Mark Lithgow, said: “The Transition Town Wellington group is packed full with very enthusiastic, hard-working and dedicated people.”
Cllr Andy Govier said: “This is a very worthwhile organisation which does a lot of good work.”
Cllr Sean Pringle-Kosikowsky added: “This is a fantastic group.”
And Cllr Dean Bradley said: “I would just like to echo all the positives about this group.”
Cllr Marcus Barr thanked Helen Gillingham, of the TTW group, who was in attendance at the ‘virtual’ meeting, for all the good work that was being done.
Finance committee councillors agreed to award the grant application and this was confirmed at the full council later that evening.
