ROCKS and stones found in Wellington have been taken all over the world as part of the Welly Rocks community game.

In the game rocks are decorated and hidden, and then when found, the finder takes a picture and uploads it to Facebook before hiding it again.

Steph Webber set up Welly Rocks in March, along with her husband Jamie and their girls Sophie and Kacie, after spotting decorated rocks on holiday in Cornwall.

Steph said: “I thought it would be a wonderful thing for our small community of Wellington to do together – and it took off so well.

“We now have just under 2,000 likes on our Facebook page and our rocks have travelled across the globe – France, Spain, Greece and the most recent one went to Australia and New Zealand.”

During the school summer holidays a trail was run to raise money for Wellington-based charities WHERE and Reminiscence Learning.

Steph added: “The trails were sold in the WWN office and took people on a journey around town where a rock was ‘hidden’ in shop windows! We also sold some goody bags and had a craft station at a local fete. We raised a total of £150 which we evenly split and donated to the charities.” Prizes have been given out to those who took part in the trail.

A Remembrance Day Poppy Rock Drop event was held at The Park in Wellington on Remembrance Sunday. Many decorated rocks with a poppy were put around the war memorial in the park.
