A FOUR-COURSE feast of local produce hosted by Brompton Ralph farmers will be the mouth-watering start of this year’s 10 Parishes Festival on Friday, September 5.

Held every second year, the popular festival will run to September 14 and showcase the best the area can offer, including art exhibitions, performances, talks, street markets, and a Wiveliscombe carnival procession.

The idea for a 10 Parishes feast was cooked up by husband and wife team Dan and Emma Holmes, who run the Wonky Horn Organic Meat Company, at Westcott Farm, Brompton Ralph.

Their herd of longhorn cattle produced a heifer with wonky looking horns, hence the name of the enterprise, which now includes Exmoor Horn sheep, large black pigs, and Hubbards chickens.

Dan and Emma said: “When we were first approached about taking part in the festival it seemed like the perfect opportunity to create a 10 Parishes feast.

“We set ourselves the challenge to uncover and connect with some of the best local producers, and celebrate everything foodwise the 10 Parishes and a few neighbouring villages have to offer.

“We have some very passionate small producers right here on our doorstep, which we are very lucky to work with.

“It is great to see how excited everybody is to show off their incredible products for everybody to enjoy.”

Four courses with ingredients from 12 local suppliers will be served in a traditional barn on shared long tables, including starter of Stawley charcuterie, fish course of Clatworthy trout, Wonky Horn Longhorn brisket, and Exmoor Horn hogget as main, with honey crème brûlée to finish things off.

Tickets at £60 are available online with the evening commencing at 7 pm at Westcott Farm.

The 10 Parishes Festival of visual and performing arts runs from Saturday to Sunday, September 6 to 14.
