THE owners of Tonedale Mill in Wellington have been ordered to carry out work at the dilapidated site.

Somerset West and Taunton Council has served Mancraft Ltd with a Section 215 notice under the Planning Act 1990 requiring it to:

Ensure that fencing is secure around the perimeter of the land and that all areas of fallen timber fencing are removed

Board up and secure window openings in buildings at ground floor level

Clear foliage, rubbish, glass, rubble, disused materials and old, dilapidated vehicles and caravans from the site.

Mancraft, based in Southall, Middlesex, is warned that no machinery should be removed from the buildings on the land without consent.

The company could be prosecuted and fined if it fails to carry out the work at the Grade 2* Listed former textile factory.

Alternatively, it could be forced to pay the council’s costs for carrying out the work.

The site has acted as a magnet for children to play prompting the police to issue warnings about the site’s dangers.
