THE World Wellington Boot Throwing Championship held at the playing fields at Court Fields School, Wellington, on Saturday saw a record fall.
Peter Knox threw a massive 36.8m to take the longest male throw record at the well attended event opened by Mayor of Wellington Cllr Gary James.
In addition to the welly-throwing events entertainment included a display by Wellington Majorettes and a dog show hosted by the Mount Veterinary Hospital. Live music was provided by Wellington Silver Band training group, a Ukulele Group and Fodo Higginson.
Other attractions included Taunton Cider with its horsebox bar, free face painting by Celestae’s Fantasy Faces paid for by the event organisers, The Vintage bar, gins and hog roast, tombolas, have-a-go archery, trampoline bungee, plus a wide variety stands, and a raffle in aid of WHERE (Westcountry Health Education Research Enterprise).
Several other companies and organisations supported the event by helping the organisers with advertising materials, and local shops sponsored trophies and medals.
Event organiser Sue White said: “This was our tenth anniversary event and it was very well supported. We had a fantastic day – thankfully the rain held off, although it was chilly at times.
“The crowds were more plentiful than we originally thought and everyone seemed to have a wonderful time.
“The competition between the men was amazing and extremely competitive! It was not just the men as the women tried to improve their scores and were extremely competitive too.
“I would like to thank the committee, the organisations who joined us this year, the competitors, visitors and all the volunteers, especially my family and their friends, for helping us make this another successful event.”
