A COUNCIL blunder which meant double yellow lines in a Wellington street were not legal is about to be corrected.
Somerset County Council admitted this week there had been a ‘slight oversight’ when the lines were laid in Mantle Street a few years ago.
Because the process was not correctly followed the yellow lines on either side of the road close to Wellington Medical Centre and as far as Trinity Close remained legally unenforceable.
The mistake came to light when highways officers looked to have the lines refreshed after they had faded and in some places worn away over the years.
A county council spokesperson told the Wellington Weekly: “In this case the lines have already been painted and we are currently processing a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) to ensure restrictions can be enforced.
“This is happening retrospectively due to an oversight when the original request was submitted.
“The consultation window for the order has now closed and we are assessing feedback.
“Once we have done this the order can be finalised and lines will be refreshed in areas where there is deterioration.”
