LOCAL author Elizabeth Jade, who launched a book at the Cats Protection Homing & Information Centre at the Blackdown Garden Centre, near Wellington, last year, plans to continue her support for the charity in 2018 through book sales and volunteering.
Aimed at eight to 12-year-olds, ‘Akea – The Power of Destiny’ will be on sale at the centre and Elizabeth has pledged almost 50 per cent from each book sold will go to Cats Protection.
The book follows the story of a young husky, Akea, who realises her future lies beyond the safety of her home. A lone wolf, Kazakh, is well aware of what the future holds for Akea and it is his task to make sure she is ready, no matter what the cost.
Elizabeth Jade, 19, said: “I enjoy volunteering for Cats Protection and helping the cats prepare for their new homes, but my depression and anxiety prevent me from doing this as often as I’d like to. I know that by donating from the sales of my book at the centre, I am still helping the cats, even when I am not there.”
The Cats Protection Homing & Information Centre at the Blackdown Garden Centre opened in August 2016 and since then has found homes for more than 195 cats.
Centre manager Mark Magee said: “We are all absolutely delighted with the success of the Taunton Homing and Information Centre and with the total amount of cats homed since opening – and with the hundreds of people we have been able to give cat advice and information to.
“The time and dedication given by our volunteers never ceases to amaze me. They all play a vital and varying role in preparing the cats for their new forever homes.”
