SOMERSET Council must be losing the will to live in their battle to rid the county's roads of potholes. As quickly as workmen repair them they reappear - in the same spot. The reason is simple. Frost finds its way into the smallest of cracks and opens them up again. The only way to solve the problem is to resurface the road entirely and that will not be done because of the cost.Although, as one of my mates - yes I do have mates - put it: 'A royal visit might do the trick. There won't be any potholes about if King Charles was about.' I think he's got a good point. . .Until then, be prepared to spot potholes when driving.

THERE'S going to be a General Election sometime this year and you will have a choice between a Conservative Government or a Labour Government. Sadly, it's not much of a choice which is why a number of people I've met say they will not be voting this year. While I see their point of view to a degree, not voting is not the answer. In some countries, it is compulsory and that should be the case here. Many people feel they have not got a choice. I would agree. Conservatives spend all their time fighting among themselves while Labour don't seem to have any positive ideas of their own to solve this country's problems. And we mustn't forget the problems abroad. It's such an unstable world at the moment. It's hard to stay positive when the likes of Putin and Kim Jong un refer to nuclear weapons as an option to fight other countries, while China will use force if necessary to attack Taiwan. I think any party that puts defence at the top of its priorities would get my vote. There's not much point in having a nice family and home if it is obliterated by a nuclear bomb. It is possible that some mad man might press the button. We don't as a nation seem to take this seriously.

I LIVE in a world where women don't have pumped up lips, big buttocks, enlarged breasts and tattoos. It seems this is the norm with some women these days. Why do they go through all this pain to look 'attractive’. I know I'm showing my age when I say I don't think many women are doing themselves any favours. What will they look like in 20 years time? I find it all a bit painful. How much does it cost?

SOMEONE changing the time of the clocks above The Iron Duke over the Easter weekend must have had one too many. They stopped the clock at 2.15am on Sunday before putting up the correct time later in the day. Obviously after sobering up!I suppose not everyone wants to change these clocks at midnight when most of us have gone between the sheets for a good night's sleep. And changing the subject. At last we can look forward to some light evenings - but if only the weather would improve. We've had wet weather for more than two and a half months - surely the longest spell we can remember. IT MAY not be cricketing weather but the old whites will soon be coming out. Cricket, unfortunately, is one of those games which is totally at the mercy of the weather. So much so that you can win or lose a championship. In some leagues you can gain more points for losing than if you didn't play. It always seems unfair to me but the idea is to encourage teams to play their games and not provide any excuse to cancel.
