ROCKWELL Green short-mat bowlers were pleased to welcome Creech St Michael on a warm/hot summers evening when temps outside the hall were 28C - and not a lot cooler inside.

All the talk was about the weather and the closure of the link road at Cheltston by the motorway.

Getting play underway in a four-mat contest (Green names first ) Syd, Reg & Dennis played Mike, Allan C & Ken. The Creech trio were 6—5 up after 7 ends but a 5 on end 8 plus a 3 & 5 on the last two ends gave the Green a rather flattering 18—6 victory.

Next up Graham, John G & Brian were matched with Sheila, Allan P & Richard. In what proved to be a tight match with neither side getting a big advantage it was 6 all with one to play. The visitors took 2 shots to give them a close victory 8—6.

A welcome break was enjoyed by both teams with the Green in a dominate position at 22—14 up.

The restart saw Christine, Bill & Bob against Derek, Roland & Richard. Both sides had 5 shots after 7 ends but the Green edged away over the last 3 ends to record a 8—6 home win.

Last up as temperatures cooled were Joy, Dave & Brian who put Sheila, Sylvia & June to the knife, never allowing the visitors to score a single shot over the ten ends. To be fair, Lady Luck was on the Green's side. The visitors played well but nothing went right for them. It must be said it was the first time any side has lost every end in a match at the Green.

It was a very enjoyable evening, if a little too warm, and the Green thanked Creech for playing on such a hot evening. The final score was 48—20 in the Green's favour.
