THE Weekend Triples League at Wellington Bowling Club is well underway and everyone is getting more and more competitive as all the teams strive to get to the top of the league table.
This weekend the two top teams in the league fought it out to see who would be top after the match was played. Alan May's Skylarks were up against Ian Hollingsworth's Southsiders to see who would be top dogs.
There was little in it from the start. Liz May, Alan Every and skip Alan May got the bowls rolling with a three in the first end but Dave Harrison, Angie Moore and skip Ian Hollingsworth soon came back at them and by the fourth end the teams were level on three shots apiece.
The game continued to be closely fought but Southsiders pinched it on the line by nine shots to seven to become this week's table-toppers after an exciting match.
The second game in the competition was also a very tight match between the Woodpeckers and the Ninchers.
After a nip and tuck first few ends the teams drew level at the halfway point, five shots each. Sally Waygood, Sue Channon and skip Nick Channon's Woodpeckers struggled to keep up in the last ends and Ray White, Vera White and Martyn Beed's Ninchers were the victors by four shots, 10 – 6.
In the last game Michelle Newstead, Maria Mitchell and skip Tony Woollard's New Rollers played Debra Beasley's Allstars.
The match was also close from the start. The Rollers began well and were leading up until the 7th end when the Allstars caught up to make it 5 shots each with just two to play.
Debra's Allstars then collected four shots in the last ends to pinch it 9 – 5.
