CRICKETERS at grassroots level are still no wiser about when they will play this summer.
It follows the latest statement from the West of England and Monmouth Scientific Somerset Cricket Leagues. Both leagues agree on the following points:
1 – The health and well-being of local communities is more important than cricket and this will be the guiding principle throughout any decisions made regarding the 2020 season.
2 – Recreational cricket cannot resume until the Government and English Cricket Board have given the approval.
3 –All leagues are focused on providing their clubs with the opportunity to play meaningful and competitive cricket matches if and when the opportunity arises. Leagues are prepared to be creative to make best use of any windows available to play the game noting that issues such as ground availability and ground sharing will have to be considered.
4 – Fair notice will need to be given to clubs on when a resumption of cricket will occur.
5 – No penalties will be incurred by clubs unable to use their facilities through no fault of their own or for clubs unable to field teams due to Covid-19 concerns.
The leagues have also decided there will be no promotion or relegation within, in, to or out of their divisions based on any fixtures played this year.
