WELLINGTON gained a 16-run home victory over fellow Somerset Division rivals North Perrott in their opening tie in the 20 overs a side Baker Cup competition, writes David Derrick.
Jacob Hurry chose to bat first on winning the toss and found his side were placed at 9-2 early on as Lamahewage and Brain repeated their wicket taking from their recent league meeting between the sides.
Luke Desave with 25 got the Red and Blacks going again with a knock that took 18 balls to compile and contained two fours and a six.
Lakshan Edirisinghe was the star of the show for Wellington with the bat as he crafted 44 in 36 balls with six fours and a six to get Wellington to 100-6 on his dismissal. However, from from then the tail end of the innings didn't kick as a final total of 111 with three overs going unused was the end statistic. James Hibbert with 18 made a solid knock at an important time.
For Perrott left arm spinner Subramanian with an excellent 4-18 in four overs was their star turn with the ball and so Perrott would need 112 to win at 5.60 per over.
Pacy George Davis took a wicket with his first ball as Perrott keeper Payne was caught by Luke Desave and from here it was spin all the way as Stian Smith and Edirisinghe both wove a web that snared three Perrott victims apiece as only Retter with a decent 39, Burrows with 12 and Male with 10 reached double figures.
Wellington fielded well with another catch for Desave, Tyler Fyfe, as a sub fielder, took his chance and Jacob Hurry bagged himself two stumpings for last season’s finalists.
Davis ran out Subramanian with five balls to spare to propel Wellington into the last eight.
Scores: Wellington 111, Noth Perrott 95.
