ERIN Osborne took up her post as the Somerset Women’s head coach in December and has been working with the squad now for six weeks.

During a break Erin, who played in over 120 international matches for Australia, talked about her time at the club so far.

“It’s been a really good six weeks. I’ve come in and I’ve observed how things were done. I’ve started building relationships which is the most important thing starting in a new organisation, and I’ve started to get to know the players well enough to understand how to get them performing.

“I’ve made changes to the training structure which I think that they have all bought into and my staff have been fantastic in leading that as well.”

Erin went on: “We’ve done a lot around problem solving and game scenarios - I’m really keen on how we want to play this season and now it’s just providing the girls with the opportunity to train the way we want to play.

“Also letting them problem solve among each other rather than asking the coaches for answers. I’m getting them to work much more closely as a group, so this six week block has been pretty cool.”

Some of the Somerset squad are already playing out in Australia, and in the near future others will be off to a training camp in Sri Lanka.

“You don’t become better cricketers by training in the nets all the time, so I think that any opportunity you get to go and play and experience different surfaces is a positive one.

“We have three players currently playing club cricket in Australia in Sydney and then five of our players are going to Sri Lanka , mainly our batters and wicket -keepers. It will be a great experience for them. The whole squad are then off Sharjah in the middle of March.
