THE weather was perfect for the Opening of the Green at Wellington Bowling Club last Saturday.

It was officially opened by Dick Northam, assisted by president Ann Cowling. Dick is 100 years old and a life member of the club. In his younger days he was very involved in bowls and was a coach and national umpire.

After the opening players donated money to charity by taking part in a “spider’ competition. One bowl each is bowled at a target and the winner is the player with the nearest bowl. The money raised will be given to the president’s chosen charity. Congratulations and thanks should be given to the green keepers for preparing the green so that the opening could take place.
