WELLINGTON’S attacking midfielder Josh Wadham is playing for Southern Premier South side Tiverton Town while he is serving out a six-match ban, writes Barry Knott.
“The arrangement suits me and Tiverton’s manager Martyn Rogers,” said Wellington boss Clive Jones. “I would rather he was playing football and not sitting around for a few weeks.
“Martyn and I are good friends and I was quite willing for Josh to go there. He is a very good player. Apparently his suspension only applies to the Toolstation League.”
Meanwhile Wellington will be back in action tonight (Wed) when they play away to Bridport in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League.
It was Bridport who knocked out Wellington in the FA Cup. The tie ended in a goalless draw at Bridport and the Dorset side won the replay 3-0 at Cullompton.
“I think Bridport are a good side,” said Jones. “They are only near the bottom of the table because they have not played as many games as most sides.”
Wellington, who beat Chipping Sodbury 7-2 at home over the weekend, could be without RAF boys Ben Newman and Jack Porter tonight, while Tim Legg is unlikely to be available.
“Tim is a very important player in our side and I can quite see him becoming manager of Wellington one day,” said Jones.
“I thought we were a little lucky to be 2-1 up at half time against Chipping Sodbury but everything we hit in the second half seem to
go in.”
Wellington, who have no game this coming weekend, moved up to tenth in the table after their win over Chipping Sodbury while Bridport are 17th but have as many as five games in hand on some sides.
Wellington Reserves’ young side, still with only one win in the first division of the Devon and Exeter League, are away to third-placed Hatherleigh in Division One of the Devon and Exeter League on Saturday while Hemyock are home to 11th placed Winkleigh in Division Four.
