WYVERN 2

WELLINGTON 1

WELLINGTON A were devastated to go down to a dubious ‘hand ball’ last minute goal in their opening match in Division One of the Britannia Lane Taunton Saturday Football League last weekend.

It was Wellington’s first game since being promoted after winning Division Two last winter.

Both sides worked hard and tried to play football in patches. Welly took the lead through Thomas Scarlett but after the goal Wyvern took control and equalised before half-time.

The second-half was very even with both keepers not having much to do. A free-kick was given to Wyvern with ten minutes to go for a fair tackle and Lloyd Manning was sin-binned for his ‘choice of words to the ref’.

Wyvern took advantage of the extra man and pressed Welly hard, and scored the winning goal with one minute to play. It was tough on the lads as a draw would have been a fair result.

Wellington A play Redgate in the league at Court Fields tomorrow (Saturday).
