WILLAND ROVERS 11

WELLINGTON boss Clive Jones suffered his worst night in football as his side crashed to a humiliating defeat in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League last Wednesday.

“I pick the side and I take full responsibility,” said Jones, who enjoyed 15 years of success as manager of Willand. “I’ve never experienced anything like this even as a kid.”

Wellington, without the experienced Tim Legg and George Painter, were 3-0 down in six minutes and 7-0 down after 29 minutes.

“We were simply outclassed,” added Jones. “We knew they were a good side - and we were outplayed from start to finish.

“To their credit we threw in the towel and never gave up.”

Apart from conceding three goals early on, Wellington also lost Joe Chamberlain through injury after four minutes.

This was Wellington’s biggest defeat in many years and followed a 9-0 loss to Bath City in the Somerset Premier Cup last season.

“What you have to do after a defeat like this is to dust yourself down and get on with it,” said Jones.

Luke Mortimore and Craig Veale both netted hat-tricks, with others coming from Bradley Austen, Bradley Worbey (2) and Angus Wilson - and there was also an own goal.
