WELLINGTON may be without at least four first team players for Saturday’s away game against Cribbs in the Premier Division of the Toolstation League, writes Barry Knott.

Tom Hawkings and George Painter are both suspended while another defender Ben Newman is playing for the RAF at Newcastle on Friday and may not be able to get back in time for the Wellington game.

In addition Jack Bryant has a hamstring strain incurred while playing in Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat by Willand Rovers and Joe Chamberlain is away.

On the plus side, Sam Jones is back after three games and Ollie Nott is likely to be in the starting line-up.

“I’m going to have to re-jig the defence,” said Wellington boss Clive Jones. “It’s very difficult to field a settled side at the moment.”

“We should not feel too bad about losing to Willand. We had a player sent off and you can’t play the likes of Willand with ten men.

“At the moment I think we are doing alright. We have played a lot of the top sides. Let’s see what we can do against the lower teams. Our season won’t be judged on just one game against Willand.”

Wellington go into Saturday’s game 11th in the table while Cribbs are 16th.

Wellington Reserves, bottom of Division One of the Devon and Exeter League but have played less games than most sides, have a basement match against Alphington who are only one place above them.

Hemyock are home to Teignmouth Reserves who are lying tenth in Division Four.

n Wellington Under 18s have a tough away match against unbeaten Frome Town in the Somerset Floodlit Youth League this evening (Oct 24).

Wellington won their first game in South Division last week when they beat Cheddar 1-0 at home with Ollie Holman snapping up the all-important winner. However, they should have won by a bigger margin.
