CLUB captain Richard Goodman and ladies compatriot Daphne Priddy presented a cheque for £51,784 to Debbie Birtwisle from Children’s Hospice South West at the start of Oake Manor Golf Club’s annual general meeting on Thursday, March 12.

A huge thanks was expressed on behalf of the captains to the Oake Manor Golf Club members, customers and everyone who contributed to the captain’s charity through events, raffles, sponsorship and generous donations throughout the year.

A special thank you was also reserved to Debbie Birtwisle from Children’s Hospice South West for joining the meeting and sharing how these funds will make a difference to the children and families with life-limiting illnesses, while congratulations were in order for Richard and Daphny on raising such an incredible amount of money.

In other news from the golf club, the Saturday club Stableford competition on March 14 resulted in some very close scores.

Mike How took the honours in Division One with 37 points, ahead of Ashley Evans on countback, while Mark Woolliscroft was third with 33 points.

In Division Two, Robert Cowburn came first again with 37 points, Chris Hume was second also with 37 points and Vic Burgos came third, three points further back.

Tom Richardson won the Sunday Stableford competition scoring 35 points, the next four players all scored 34 points but on countback Paul Flay was second with Andrew Gent in third place.

Karen Potter won the ladies’ Sunday Stableford competition with 28 points, Jane Clist came second with 23 points while Suzanne Ward was third having finished two further back.

In the Wednesday Midweek Stableford competition earlier in the week, Anthony Date was the clear winner with 38 points, four points clear of second-placed Keiran Thomas with 34 points. Martin Jenkins made up the top three on 31.
