Police Sergeant Dan Bishop in his report to Wellington Town Council last week told councillors 430 incidents had been reported in town between April 1 and June 30.

Some 248 were recorded as the following crimes: violence against the person 112; public order offences 42; arson and criminal damage 20; vehicle offences 14; theft 12; burglary six; miscellaneous crimes against society six; drug offences four; possession of weapons one.

Since April 1 22 people in Wellington have been arrested. Fourteen people have been stopped searched in the Wellington area and all but three of these individuals have been subsequently dealt with for offences identified as a result.

Police have also received 12 reports of missing people, all of whom were successfully located after enquires and investigations.
