LOCAL people are being invited to show their support for the Armed Forces, particularly 40 Commando Royal Marines and The Rifles, who have a long association with Taunton Deane.
This year marks the tenth Armed Forces Day on Saturday, June 30, and Taunton Deane Borough Council will once again, lead the commemorations with a flag-raising ceremony.
The Armed Forces Day flag will be raised on Monday, June 25, at a short ceremony to be led by the Mayor of Taunton Deane, Cllr Catherine Herbert, alongside the chairman of Somerset County Council, Cllr Nigel Taylor.
The ceremony will take place at the flagpole outside County Hall, Taunton, due to building works at The Deane House. However, the flag will still be flown at the council’s Belvedere Road premises.
Once raised, the flag will be flown for the week leading up to Armed Forces Day.
