Wellington seems, so far, to have escaped the worst of Storm Eunice, but it is still having noticeable effects.

All of the county’s schools and colleges are shut, and most council services have been put on hold.

Public transport has been suspended until at least midday.

Many shops are shut, including Boots in Wellington and Sheppey’s House of Cider in Bradford-on-Tone.

The roof of the changing rooms at the Blue Horizon swimming pool behind Wellington Arts Centre was torn off by the winds.

Unconfirmed reports on social media are describing downed telephone lines, slates being ripped from roofs and trees toppled, including at Wellington School.

Some minor roads are blocked by fallen trees but no injuries have been reported so far.
