BUDDING artists at Court Fields School in Wellington have enjoyed a two-day art workshop run by professional artist Vernon Jones.

He showed the class examples of artists’ work and then taught students how to work with vibrant oil pastels and acrylic paint to create traditional and modern portraits.

Year 10 students were taught several methods to help enhance their GCSE skills in Art.

One student said: “I feel so much more confident now that I know have practised these new methods both on a small and large scale.”

Other students worked with clay to produce stunning pieces of modern Gothic art.

Mr Jones showed them how to work with clay by hand to create unique pieces of art.

Many students chose to create a bust over the five-hour session, while others made large pots which they built up coil by coil.

The students created their own designs, which meant the entire collection made for an exceptional display by the end of the day.

Mr Jones was able to work with every student individually over the two days – complimenting them on what they were already able to achieve but also giving advice on how to improve their work.

Most of the class even stayed working throughout their lunchtime as they were so enjoying such an innovative opportunity just before starting their final GCSE year.
