Police in Wellington have issued warnings to residents about crime during the summer weather.

According to UK police data it is common to see crime rise in the summer. As the temperature rises more people are driven into their gardens which encourages doors and windows to be left open.

Wellington Neighbourhood policing team have warned people not to do this. A spokesperson for the police said: “The temptation to air properties throughout the day will be there and sadly, opportunist criminals will take advantage of this by either entering homes or reaching through open windows and doors to take what they can.

“Please ensure when you’re in any rear gardens that front doors and windows are shut and locked.

“If you’re leaving your home, even for a very short period of time, always ensure that all windows and doors are locked and secured.”

This warning comes as Wellington has seen a spate of antisocial behaviour, from potential arson on Fox’s field to rock attacks on motorists in Rockwell Green.
