300 children take part in fundraising event for Cancer Research

PUPILS at Beech Grove Primary School in Wellington put their best foot forward to raise money for Cancer Research in a Race

for Life event.

Race for Life has become one of the highlights of the year at Beech Grove in Courtland Road which children look forward to

getting involved in.

They train hard and persevere with the challenge. Distances increase with each year group from Reception to Year 6 and all

children find it a positive exercise.

Parents and carers of Beech Grove pupils come along and support the event by cheering their children on and running if they

wish.

The Parents, Teachers and Friends Association of the school provide hot chocolate and biscuits in the school hall straight after the event for all children to enjoy.

A school spokesman said: “Before the race day children learn about why we are raising the money and what it could mean for cancer cures in their lifetime.

“They decorate their own tag with why they are running. Many children have relatives that have had cancer experiences that

they share with other children.”

This year’s Race for Life was held on Friday at Wellington Park next to the school and on a cold, but sunny day, more than 300

children took part.

“We are yet to know the exact amount as sponsor forms are still coming in but we have risen over £400 on our online Just Giving

page alone,” added the spokesman.
