FIRE fighters battled for eight hours to quench a blaze in 400 tonnes of hay and straw at a farm at Rockwell Green.
Fire control received 14 calls from people who saw the blaze at Perry Elm around 7.30pm last night.
The barn also contained a large number of tyres which fuelled the fire.
Two fire appliances from Wellington along with the Water Carrier from Bridgwater were mobilised, and an additional appliance from Taunton was also directed to the scene due to the volume of calls.
Crews fought the blaze using a hose reel jet and compressed air foam to bring the blaze under control.
By soon after 10pm the emergency had been scaled down to two pumps as firemen continued to damp down and by 3.50am crews were on standby allowing the barn to naturally burn out.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
