Bluegrass band Thunderbridge are set to play the most intimate of concerts on Sunday evening (July 7) at Runnington Church, just outside Wellington.

The tiny village church, which seats just 50 people, is a perfect setting for the band, whose stripped-back acoustic shows have been wowing audiences nationwide for nearly 15 years.

Singer, songwriter and local resident Nick Girone-Maddocks said: “We just love these gigs - a really quiet environment where folks can just sit and listen to the stories we tell and songs we sing. It really doesn’t get any better than this and we can’t wait!”

The band have played all sorts of larger concerts in their history, including the 02 Arena, festivals and large theatres. Last year saw them play to a 3,000-strong crowd at Twinwood Festival in Bedfordshire. Nick added: “This is the other end of the spectrum but we’ll give it our all as we always do.”

The band play mainly original material in a bluegrass style, centred around a single microphone and with guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle and double bass - not forgetting the close harmony singing.

Tickets are £12 and very limited - they are available from the band’s website, www.

thunderbridgebluegrass.uk, or from Gibbins Richards estate agents in Wellington High Street.

Refreshments will be provided and proceeds from the concert will go towards the upkeep and maintenance of the church. Curfew is 10pm.
