GENEROUS donations from the people of Hemyock and surrounding areas saw 102 shoeboxes packed with Christmas gifts be given to Devon charity Christian Response to Eastern Europe (cr2ee).

There were also numerous bags of toys, good quality secondhand clothes and bedding and cash donations, as well as numerous newly knitted garments including more than 60 hats and a dozen pairs of teddy bear mittens made by local organiser Janice Bawler.

She said: “Once again I have been overwhelmed by people’s generosity. Cr2ee delivers the shoeboxes to Romania and Moldova, not only to children but to all family members and while cash donations are always welcome the charity does not ask that contributions accompany the boxes.

“Many thanks to all who have contributed. Your kindness will bring great joy to those who otherwise may not receive any gifts at Christmas.”
