PLANS for Wellington Dental Practice to increase its facilities have been warmly welcomed by local councillors.

Members of Wellington Town Council’s planning committee have given their support for a single-storey extension to be built at the rear and side of the practice in the High Street.

A spokesman for the practice said in a report: “The extensions are to create a new staff room area and a new patient waiting room to allow the practice to expand to look after the oral health need of the growing population of Wellington.

“The practice currently employs 25 people and the expansion of the practice will also make further contribution to the local economy and the addition of four to five employees to our staff numbers.”

Cllr Vivienne Stock-Williams said it was good to see a local business looking to grow.

Cllr John Thorne said: “Wellington is a growing town and a lot of people comment about the infrastructure of the town because with more houses there are worries about how the local doctors and dentists will cope.

“So this application about the expansion of a dental practice should be welcomed.”

A final decision on the application will be made by Somerset West and Taunton Council.
