A BY-ELECTION is being called in Wiveliscombe and West Deane after former Independent Cllr John Bone lost his right to represent the ward after failing to attend any qualifying Council meetings since 15 July 2008.

The seat in the two-seat ward was officially declared vacant at Taunton Deane Borough Council's full council meeting on February 17. A by election must be held within 35 days of the declaration.

The poll date has been set for Thursday, April 2. Nomination papers must be delivered to the Returning Officer at the council by noon on Friday, March 6.

Applications for postal votes must reach the council's Electoral Registration Officer at The Deane House, Belvedere Road, Taunton, TA1 1HE, by 5pm on Wednesday, March 18.

The other seat is held by Cllr Mary Whitmarsh.
