STAFF of a Wellington-based charity have been busy creating a scarecrow’s garden for visitors to enjoy during warmer weather.

Reminiscence Learning, based in The Counting House, Tonedale Mill, is home to Archie, a brightly coloured scarecrow mascot for its range of dementia services.

Growing numbers of people are visiting The Counting House, where events are held such as a memory cafe, singing together sessions and fitness classes.

But while chief executive Fiona Mahoney was helping to turn a run down area outside the back door into a garden, she discovered its one and only planter had a huge crack which made it unusable.

Now, she is appealing for any WWN readers who can offer a replacement planter to get in touch.

Archie creator Fiona said: “There is quite a bit of space alongside the building and we thought it would be nice to tidy it up, so people can sit outside with a cup of tea if they want to.

“We have cut back the overgrown shrubbery and put in some plants, and now it is starting to look quite nice.”

Award-winning Reminiscence Learning offers specialist training within the care industry for dementia, reminiscence and activities.

Archie is an inter-generational awareness project aimed at helping to create dementia-friendly communities.
