CASH-STRAPPED Wellington-based adult support organisation WHERE has been saved by a Christmas present of £12,500 from a London-based family trust.

The windfall will safeguard six jobs which were under threat following the revealation earlier this month that the organisation, seen as a 'second home' to hundreds of local elderly and vulnerable people, was on the brink of collapse as running costs were outstripping its income.

WHERE vice chairman Andrew Govier told the WWN yesterday: 'We are absolutely delighted with this news. With all the press coverage over the last few weeks it has been very clear how important WHERE is to so many people.

"The Board has always hoped that funding would be found but we had to take reasonable precautions to ensure that the charity did not go into debt."

The organisation which provides meals and other activities for hundreds of local residents was potentially due to close its doors in January.
