WELLINGTON Chess Club, like many such clubs in Somerset, is suffering as a result of the effect Covid-19 has had on face-to-face over-the-board play.

Most members have made at least a few appearances since lockdown nearly two years ago but numbers have been severely depleted.

However, most club nights half a dozen or so attend, soldiering on to keep the club alive, and members are getting used to playing with face masks.

Despite these problems the club is still offering a welcome to new members and was delighted to welcome experienced local player Chris Montag to swell the numbers.

Anyone interested in playing chess at the club at Chelston Chapel on Wednesday evenings throughout the year should contact any of the club officials listed on the Somerset County Chess Association website.
