THE Cleve Spa hotel in Mantle Street, Wellington, is seeking to expand and the news that it wants to build 18 bedrooms in a new two-storey extension was welcomed at the November meeting of Wellington Town Council.

The council decided to tell Taunton Deane Borough Council, which will make the final decision, that it was in favour of the scheme providing the new building was in keeping with existing hotel. Cllr Andrew Govier said it was good news that a local business was expanding and providing more bedrooms for visitors in the town.

Councillors also agreed to support a proposal for the change of use of the ground floor of a former hair salon to a flat, the erection of a four-flat, two-storey extension at the rear and the replacement of a garage with the erection of two homes at 5 and 5a North Street, Wellington.

The council backed a plan to demolish a garage and erect a detached home with detached double garage to serve both houses in the garden to the side of Bridge House, Payton Road, Westford, Wellington.

Again the Deane will make the final decision on both applications.

The council decided to make no decision on an application for the change of use from business to assembly and leisure at Suite 2 (1st floor), Tonedale Mill Industrial Park, Tonedale, Wellington, as it did not have enough information but to tell the Deane that complaints had been received about noise.

Using its delegated powers, the town council approved the following plans: Alterations and extensions to existing detached house at 49 Wellesley Park, Wellington; erection of single-storey side extension to provide garage at 47 Sylvan Road, Wellington; erection of a carport to the south elevation of 28 Ashford Road, Wellington.
