ONE of the main roads into and out of Wellington was blocked on Friday morning (October 20) by a large tree which may have come down in winds generated by Storm Babet which had been battering the UK this week.
It caused delays for commuters, parents taking children to school, and bus services as vehicles were forced to turn around and find another route.

Traffic was stopped coming into and out of Wellington by a fallen tree onFriday morning.
Lorry drivers eventually dragged the tree to one side to allow vehicles to pass before a Somerset Council highways team was called to cut up the trunk with a chainsaw.
The tree fell across the B3187 between the Drakes Park Voyage Care home and the Longforth Farm estate roundabout, opposite Baynes Close.
It was unclear if winds had brought down the tree after days of heavy rain made the ground too sodden, or if it had started to lean across the carriageway and was hit by a lorry.

Some of its branches bore marks indicating it had been struck by something.
A temporary traffic control was set up while the tree was cleared and the road was fully open again by about 10.30 am.
