COUNCIL tax in Wellington is to jump by almost 10% - FIVE TIMES the rate of inflation.

After being unchanged for 11 years, Wellington Town councillors decided to fix its council tax at £18.07 for band D properties, which is £1.57 more than the current figure of £16.50 set in 1999, at their annual budget meeting on Monday.

The council cut its expenditure for 2010-11 by almost £15,000 to £101,975 and took £6,107 from its reserves of £54,273 to limit the rise.
