WELLINGTON councillor Bob Bowrah has been told to apologise after a comment he made in the WWN regarding the controversial redevelopment of a site in Holyoake Street in the town.

Holyoake Street resident Cllr Bowrah, who represents Rockwell Green and West Ward on Wellington Town Council, and who is also Mayor of Taunton Deane, was referred to Taunton Deane Borough Council's standards committee after making a comment which, the committee decided, implied that the decision to build a block of apartments, branded a 'monstrosity' by local protesters, had been made before the council's planning committee had formally met.

A spokesman for the council said: "The complainant felt that Cllr Bowrah's comments failed to treat the committee and its officers with respect.

"The standards committee met on October 14 and after much consideration decided that Cllr Bowrah had breached the official code of conduct and should make a written apology to the planning committee and its officers.

"The committee determined that Cllr Bowrah is fully aware that no decisions on planning applications are made prior to any formal decision making process."
