THE head teacher of Court Fields School in Wellington, Polly Matthews, has praised her staff for keeping the 720-student school fully operational despite the ongoing impact of Covid-19, which is being seen in schools across Somerset.

In a weekly bulletin to parents she said: "Despite having almost 20 per cent of our staff impacted by Covid this week, we have managed to keep all year groups in school, having face-to-face learning in line with their full timetable.

"Thank you for your support reminding your child to comply with the guidance in our Parent and Staff Guide."

Mrs Matthews added: "Public Health Somerset advised schools that we would expect the peak locally at the end of January, and they were absolutely correct. We have been able to limit the number of cases due to the enhanced measures we put in place. I would like to thank our students, staff and families for their support."
