A WELLINGTON man has pleaded guilty to causing the death by dangerous driving of Elliot Sparks, who died in a crash on the A38 at Beambridge last year.

On March 28, 2021, 35-year-old West Buckland man Mr Sparks (pictured) died when his car came off the road and hit a tree on the A38 at Whiteball Hill, near the Beambridge Inn, just outside Wellington.

David Knight, 46, appeared in Taunton Crown Court on Monday, where he spoke only to give his date of birth and then plead guilty - following a 15-minute meeting with his legal representative - to the one charge of death by dangerous driving.

The case was adjourned for pre-sentence reports and Knight was ordered to appear back in court for sentencing on November 23.

Knight, who had given his address in a previous court appearance as Richards Close, Wellington, was released on unconditional bail until November 23, but was handed an interim driving disqualification - meaning he was banned from driving with immediate effect.

Members of Mr Sparks’ family were in court for the hearing.
